Joint venture in India: successful teamwork

In April 2022, Dorfner and 20 Microns took years of successful cooperation in India to a new level and moved one step closer to a promising future by founding a joint venture. The joint venture is already active on the Indian subcontinent.

Both founding companies of the joint venture are family-owned and have similar values in terms of stability and growth. The perfect prerequisites for joint development of the Indian market. With almost 1.4 billion inhabitants, India is one of the largest economies in the world. Together, the partners did what was necessary under high time pressure to complete the market entry as quickly as possible. The joint venture is already active, serving customers and filling warehouses: the product qualities offered by Dorfner and 20 Microns will be presented under the new umbrella brand Silcol.

Located in Vadodara (Gujarat State) in north-west India, 20 Microns has been India’s largest producer of industrial minerals, functional fillers and specialist chemicals for more than 30 years. 20 Microns serves customers in a wide range of industries, such as paint, coatings, paper and ceramics. The company’s products are sold in more than 47 countries worldwide, with a current export share of 25%.

The combination of 20 Microns’ strong presence on the market and Dorfner’s many years of experience, expertise and innovation not only creates the ideal basis for success in the Indian growth market. This combination also opens up opportunities for our customers and partners from Europe if they can also access the usual Dorfner expertise in India. In addition, Dorfner is now less dependent on the long transport routes for some raw materials, which is becoming increasingly important in view of the current difficulties facing international supply chains.

The record shows that the partnership has the potential to bring benefits for both 20 Microns and Dorfner. We are therefore certain that the joint venture will continue to create positive synergies for both founding companies and also for our customers.
